Director's Message

The National Taitung University Library and Computer Center officially merged into the Library and Information Center on August 1, 2014. The relocation was completed on August 27 of the same year, with trial operations commencing on September 23 and the grand opening held on December 8. The newly constructed Library and Information Center, meticulously designed by architects to evoke mountain and water imagery, artfully echoes Taitung University's unique geographical landscape, surrounded by mountains and sea. The five-story library building to the north, shaped like a mountain, stands as the university's pyramid of knowledge. The southern Information Center is a two-story water-shaped building winding along the shores of Mirror Heart Lake, serving as the hub for Taitung University's information operations.  Designed as a green building, its unique form reflects beautifully on the lake, surrounded by protected forest land offering fresh air and vibrant ecology. offering panoramic views from its rooftop of Mount Dulan, Mount Liyu, Mount Shemagan, Green Island, Lanyu Island, the azure Pacific Ocean, the picturesque South Link Railway, and the Lijiak Creek Plain. This breathtaking vista makes it not only a campus landmark but also a new highlight for Taitung. In 2015, it was voted one of “Taiwan's Top 10 Must-Visit Libraries” by the Library Association of the Republic of China; In 2016, it was listed on the IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions) website as one of the “1001 Libraries to Visit in Your Lifetime.” That same year, it was also selected by architizer.com as one of the world's eight most unique libraries. To effectively provide the books, information, and mobile learning services required for teaching, research, and administration at our university, we have integrated smart system technology to offer multiple highlight spaces. These include: , Language Learning Zones (4 rooms), Discussion Rooms (4 rooms), Interactive Light Wall, Guided Tour Kiosks, Multimedia Appreciation Zone (12 two-person seats, 7 single seats), Multipurpose Exhibition Hall, Self-Service Book Checkout Area, Newspaper Reading Tables (4 seats), Reading Seating (180 seats), Relaxation Seating (58 seats), study rooms (quiet reading 44 seats, leisure reading 42 seats), N-Space, Egg Pod Zone, research cubicles (7 long-term, 2 short-term), university history room, Lakeside Auditorium (192 seats), ergonomic computer lab (60 seats), maker space, outreach classroom (80 seats), and the Tungda Gallery, all worthy of your active use. Additionally, the library provides community services to fulfill its social responsibility of regional collaboration. These include guidance for elementary and secondary school librarians in Taitung, resident library card applications and preferential services for Taitung County residents, and operation of the Taitung County Regional Network Center. This center delivers academic network connectivity, information security, and educational outreach services throughout Taitung.
